At this point, everyone has heard about Virtual Reality, the revolutionary technology that may change the game industry and other sectors like education and healthcare. In fact, many companies throughout the world are developing experiences for this technology, no one wants to be left behind.
The creation of motion pictures, the preferred medium for storytelling, may experience a revolution with Virtual Reality as well: Enter VR Movies. Why be a simple observer when you can live the experience. Imagine whilst watching a movie you are suddenly lifted up and transported into the world which only a second ago you were watching on a flat TV screen. A world where no detail is missed. A world that develops around you not just in front of you. A whole new world for you to experience and be a part of. Nolan Bushnell wants to make history, again.
Nolan Bushnell founded Atari in 1972, the year that computing’s historical course changed forever. Now he is trying to change the way you experience cinema. He recently launched Modal VR, a company that wants to offer Virtual Reality experiences as never seen before.
“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” ― Nolan Bushnell
Wanting to make those ideas of full immersion come true, Modal VR wants to provide both the hardware and software required, headsets completely wireless combined with full-body suits will allow users to immerse themselves in a whole VR world. The downside is the equipment is expensive, of course… But could it be that the experience might just be worth it? Imagine how it would be if you watched (or better said, experienced) Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, in VR. We can’t know for sure yet, but this might just change the film industry forever. A whole new way of not just ‘watching’ movies, but making them and living their stories.
